From owner Pam Lawrence
In the mid 80’s I found myself working between Hamleys Toy Store, Selfridges and Harrods of London working for a toy demonstrator. The product was fun and the customers were happy. This gave me the opportunity to see inside the workings of large, “well oiled” stores and I loved every minute! Being commission based you did have to work hard and embrace every customer.
Life is about collecting a lot of experience and training, and all of this leads you to your destination. Later roles in Human Resources, tutor for Customer Services courses and management positions in Retail led me to my own store in Arrowtown NZ. Once again I have embraced my own business, finding the wonderful unique pieces and getting wonderful feedback from my customers.
This spurred me on to overseas purchasing. Gift Fairs in Colorado, New York, & Vancouver, Sydney, Melbourne gave me a great overview of how well provided NZ is with up to date furnishings. We would rummage around on each trip and bring back some fun quirky pieces that customers knew were not going to be found in other stores. All this time it is my customers that have kept me challenging myself.
With my lease expiring on my Arrowtown Store after 10 and a half years, I knew it was time to, step down to step up. I am now concentrating on setting the store up on the Blue Moon Rummage website, for the rest of 2020. I have another vision for the future of Retail, so hopefully I can step up again in 2021 and bring my customers something new and exciting.
We are still collecting from our overseas suppliers for the Vintage Ski and quirky Home Décor pieces that our customers love.
As well as personally collecting within NZ…old and new…I look forward to having more time to source and really focus, and present, unique and fun pieces. From Clothing to Vintage to Brand New I will be looking at it all. For those who have enjoyed the Blue Moon Store over the last 15 years, here is a new way of shopping with us.
